Can we trust PAS? ~ Jed Yoong

12NovCan We Trust Ourselves? Instead Of Can We Trust PAS…

I picked up a letter “We Cannot Trust PAS” on Mkini via Khalid Samad’s blog.

Since YB Khalid has responded to many of the points raised in that letter, I will just share my personal experience with just a couple of PAS people.

I find them trustworthy and sincere.

If they do something silly, it is probably ‘cos of religious fanaticism in their belief that Islam will indeed save the world.

I think Malaysians have to ask why do we have issues in trusting someone of a different race?

The letter probably meant to say, “We cannot trust Malays….” rather than “We cannot trust PAS”.

In my short time in Kelantan, I can see religion being freely practised there and a much more assimilated Chinese population, probably due to small numbers.

Yet, discriminatory laws still exist as Chinese are only allocated limited land and this had made property much more expensive for the Chinese.

I think we have to bear in mind that communal interests and loyalties are still strong. And hence, we have to cater to such sentiments while striving towards a stronger national identity.

On the appointment of Low to head PKNS, I seriously doubt it was meritocratic but mostly symbolic to play racial politics. Perhaps Khalid will propose a 20 percent quota for non-Malays in civil service and GLCs in Selangor, although these appointments must also be meritocratic and meet minimum recruitment requirements.

The letter also said:

Now to the second question, is PAS a replica of Umno? To answer this, one has to give a resounding ‘yes’. The reason? PAS believes in Ketuanan Melayu and so does Umno.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.…Please go have a look at UMNO elections or read about it on blogs and compare with the PAS elections.

Ketuanan Melayu is a concept enshrined in our Constitution that has been twisted by UMNO to give it a Nazi-like implementation. The idea is probably most succinctly explained by Khir Toyo: “…mengangkat harakat bangsa, ialah dinyatakan dgn jelas dalam perlembagaan seperti dalam perkara 32,kedudukan DYMM Agong dan kedudukan raja raja berperlembagaan, Perkara 152, bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa kebangsaan; Perkara 153, hak istimewa orang orang Melayu.” This does not mean the other races will be tertindas, etc although it has happened in practice due to abuses.

PAS, via Dr Zukifly Ahmad and other PAS bloggers and activists, were among the first few who took steps to dialogue with the Bar Council to resolve perennial problems due to conflicts between Syariah and civil jurisdictions. For more, read Zahid Hamidi CLAIMS Muslim/Non-Muslim Divorce Disputes Can Be Resolved Via ‘Negotiation’, and More In PAS Support Bar Council Forum, Suggest Ways To Resolve Perennial Conflicts.

YB Khalid also mentioned:

It is interesting to note that PAS was offered far more than what it received under PR but PAS rejected it. If even by rejecting it we are accused of ‘betrayal’, I wonder what proof of loyalty demands.

PAS has indeed given up a lot by remaining in Pakatan and it was under no obligation to do so as there was no formal coaliton but just a pact to distribute seats for one-on-one contests in the March 8 general election.

To conclude, I trust PAS much more than I trust PKR or Anwar Ibrahim, anytime.

Gem of a story....

Gem of a story....
Received by email:

"Very nice story - Don't Miss to Read it!!!

An elderly man in Mumbai calls his son in New York and says,

'I hate to ruin your day son, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are getting a divorce; 35 years of marriage... and that much misery is enough!'

'Dad, what are you talking about?' the son screams.

'We can't stand the sight of each other any longer,' the old man says.

'We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Hong Kong and tell her!'

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.

'Like heck they're getting divorced,' she shouts, 'I'll take care of this.'

She calls Mumbai immediately, and screams at the old man, 'You are not getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR??' and she hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. 'Okay', he says, 'It's all set. They're both coming for Deepavali and paying their own airfare!!'

Nasi Lemak...

I suddenly had this craving for nasi lemak and bought two from my favorite restaurant. I gave a five dollar bill expecting some change but to my surprise there was none. It cost RM 2.50 each. The last time about a few month ago it was RM 1.50. Congrats to Pak La and Najib...
